Our
Process and Guarantee
As we developed this product, we dealt with
challenges to producing a consistent, durable,
high quality product.
1)
The first challenge is, of course, to keep
the stone and
the base stuck together over the long haul. Inherently, metal expands and contracts with temperature changes far more than
stone, and this action can eventually work the glue off! A recent quantum
leap in marine grade adhesive technology makes for a powerful stone to metal
bond that is very strong over time. Of course, the engineering details are a
trade secret. We have performed repeated 'torture tests' on the finished products,
including freeze-thaw experiments (30 repetitions) and putting them in our son's tree fort and they just stay stuck!
Of course nothing is completely infallible, and they may not withstand a toddler
with a hammer,or a drop from a height onto concrete, but the average pulls, bumps and shoves of everyday life will
be tolerated with grace for many years to come. They do not like to fly and about one-in-a-hundred stones will part ways with its stem due to air bubble pressure differentials between the adhesive and the plane's cargo hold. For larger orders we put in an extra knob, free of charge, just in case.
We are so confident
that your knobs will stand the test of time that we
guarantee them forever. If one of your rocknobs
should come apart in that time, we will either fix
it or replace it free of charge (whichever makes the
most sense). The shipping costs both ways are, of course, yours.
2) The
second main challenge to manufacturing Rocknobs is
to supply consistently well matched sets. This
is a place where geological training is really valuable!
We read geological maps to find the rock types most
suited to Rocknob applications. We know which streams
drain these rock formations and the distance a "fresh
off the mountain" rock must travel in what grade of stream
to be rounded enough to be the perfect Natural Rocknob. We
understand the energy flow conditions during flood
and slack times that are needed to create deposits
of the right sizes of stones for all applications without
being muddy (a condition that does not make for a good
bond, even when cleaned). And, we know the best time
of year to gather the stones so they are not algae-coated
(another condition that does not make for a good bond
even after rigorous cleaning). In short, we know where
to go, respectfully and non-intrusively, to hand gather stones
for consistently well matched sets.
3)
The third main challenge has to do with the coatings. Have you ever picked beautful rocks from a river only to get them home to wonder why you picked them up in the first place? The just look better wet. We
use a satin finish coat to seal our stones to bring
out that rich underwater colour and make them easy
to clean. If you have chemical sensitivities to commercial
products at all, a second option is to use our own
combination of natural bee's wax and edible oils to
bring out the intensity of each stone's natural colouring
and patterns. They look about hallf as intense as the
sealed ones do and have a matte stony-feeling finish.
If your Natural Rocknobs have been coated with this
unique finish, they will require on-going re-oiling
with a mineral oil several times a year to maintain
that 'underwater' look. So your choice - sealed (recommended) or oiled! Note
that your rocknobs can be custom ordered without coatings
of any kind, if you choose, as well, however they will
have the chalky dry rock look.
We have spent years
researching, testing, engineering, and perfecting the
gathering
and manufacturing
process to bring you an environmentally sound, consistently durable, well-appointed
and high-end product to bring more natural beauty
and energy into your surroundings.
WE
GUARANTEE IT!
To
re-iterate, we are so confident that your Natural
Rocknobs will stand the test of time that we guarantee
them forever.
Exchanges
You have carefully ordered
the Natural Rocknobs you believe will be perfect for
your requirements and they have arrived at your home
- but what if you find that they are not quite right,
for whatever reason? You may send them back and request
the manufacture of another set that more reflects your
intention for a 10% restocking fee. The shipping costs
both ways are, of course, yours.
Returns
If for any reason, within
14 days of receipt of your order, you decide against
using your Natural Rocknobs, just ship them back and
we will refund your money less a 10% restocking fee.
The shipping costs both ways are, of course, yours.
Shipping
If you purchase your
Natural Rocknobs from us directly rather than through
a dealer, then you will be charged for shipping the
product to your door. We usually use UPS 5 day shipping to get your Natural Rocknobs to you, and will apply a reasonable shipping and handling charge to your order. If you are in a reall hurry, you can have your set UPS overnighted if you wish and the shipping charge will reflect this choice
